China and US-China Relations. Wednesday, September 26 at 7:00 pm in the UC Theater at UM:  Professor Tim Bradstock will discuss the contrast between China today and in the late 1970s, when he was an exchange student there;  Mr. Sisu Pan will view energy as aspect of Sino-US conflict and potential cooperation; and Mansfield Senior Fellow in Asian Affairs Terry Weidner will tie their themes together by discussing the domestic forces driving China today and how they affect US-China relations.

Dr. Steven I. Levine: A New Portrait of Mao Zedong: Secrets from the Russian Archives. Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00 pm in the Dell Brown Room of Turner Hall at UM. We are honored to have this conversation with Dr. Levine on the launch date of his newly translated work from Russian, Mao: The Real Story, by Dr. Sasha Pantsov. Reviewers note that this major new biography of Mao uses material perviously unavailable to biographers to reveal surprising details about Mao's rise to power.

CHINA Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections, Featuring Ambassador Gary Locke by Webcast and Commentary by Terry Weidner and Steven Levine. Monday, October 29, 6:00 pm in 210 Todd Building, UM. US Ambassador to Beijing Gary Locke will speak in a webcast to selected sites nationwide, followed by commentary by Mansfield Senior Fellow in Asian Affairs Terry Weidner and Research Faculty Associate Steven I. Levine. This event is co-sponsored by the Mansfield center, the UM School of Extended & Lifelong Learning and the National Committee on United States-China Relations.
