Southeast Asian Participant Roles and Responsibilities

  •  Commitment to goals and objectives of the program as described in the participant handbook.

  • Complete all program requests for information by the stated deadlines. Failure to respond to emails and other requests for information by deadlines may result in your withdrawal from the program.

  • Provide your Fellowship partner with detailed and focused information about what you wish to achieve during the Fellowship. The more broad and scattered your goals, the less effective your Fellowship will be.

  •  Communicate all questions to the program team in a timely manner.

  • Travel to the U.S. prepared to learn and establish long-time relationships.

  • Be open to the cultural differences you will experience during your program in the U.S., including differences in society, food, and weather. Represent your country well and respect the differences you may encounter in the U.S.

  • Actively participate in all program sessions and in Fellowship requirements.

  • Share your personal culture and professional experiences with those you meet and be willing to make presentations at a conference or meeting if asked.

  • Support your Fellowship partner during the program in recognizing his/her need to complete daily work responsibilities while hosting you.

  • Receive all clearances required to host a U.S. participant for 10-14 days at your organization and similar organizations that may benefit from his/her expertise. Note that not all Southeast Asian participants will host a U.S. participant but your acceptance to the program depends upon your agreement to this condition.

  • Commit the time and the interest to hosting your U.S. partner, ensuring that your visitor receives the same quality experience that you did while in the U.S. Note that not all Southeast Asian participants will host a U.S. participant but your acceptance to the program depends upon your agreement to this condition.

  • Participate in all evaluation meetings and complete all written evaluations in a timely manner.

  • Register with the U.S. Department of State Alumni Network for access to special programs and opportunities. Information on this will be provided.
