Join the Mansfield Center as we celebrate China in Missoula with these exciting events from Mao to conflict to diplomacy.
China and US-China Relations. Wednesday, September 26 at 7:00 pm in the UC Theater at UM: Professor Time Bradstock will discuss the contrast between China today and in the late 1970s, when he was an exchange student there; Mr. Sisu Pan will discuss energy as an aspect of Sino-US conflict and potential cooperation; and Mansfield Senior Fellow in Asian Affairs Terry Weidner will tie their themes together by discussing the domestic forces driving China today and how they affect US-China relations.

Join the Mansfield Center as visiting dignitaries discuss the relationship between the U.S. and the Republic of Korea (ROK) in the aftermath of a free trade agreement and a missile launch by North Korea underscoring the precarious nature of the Korean security situation. Featuring Deputy Chief of Mission Ambassador Hwang Joon-Kook of the ROK’s Embassy to the U.S. and Dr. Abraham Kim of the Korea Economic Institute of America. Septmeber 18 at 3 pm in UM’s Turner Hall.

The Mansfield Center hosted 19 student leaders from Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Indonesia this summer on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. The program, the Study of the U.S. Institute for Global Environmental Issues, provides a comprehensive look at environmental issues in Montana and provides the opportunity for cultural exchange with citizens across western Montana. Kimberly Maynard is an internationally recognized consultant, teacher and researcher on problems of international development, humanitarian and emergency relief assistance, and national transitions from situations of violent conflict to stability and peace. His recent book, Brothers, addresses touchy subjects like the Cultural Revolution, the dark side of Chinese capitalism, and criminality in China, with incisive, ribald humor.
