Ms. Huong Sok En is the coordinator of this project for Cambodia. She has been president of Help Our Homeland (HOH) since October 2010. She has served in various leadership roles in educational and social development activities involving youth, women and teacher empowerment projects, both in Phnom Penh and in rural areas. Prior to working at HOH, Ms. Huong Sok worked at HEDC International, a leadership and soft skills training organization, and as President of the Pannasastra Student Senate (PASS) of Pannasastra University of Cambodia (PUC). She has also participated with International Youth Programs in Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. Earlier this year, she was a Cambodian representative to the ASEAN-China Youth Leaders Group on ASEAN- China relations in the 21st century role of youth.
Why HOH is excited about this project. In the management level and leadership level, it is rare to see women in that position. For instance, during a Cambodian national event on 28th of August 2011 for 3,000 young students, there were only three women together with 60 male leaders on the stage to be honored guests. We are very excited and really love the goal of the Women's Empowerment Program to teach emerging leaders, especially women from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and the USA, how to engage in collaborative action to address women' concerns that have economic and global repercussions. Moreover, I am very happy to see Cambodian women have such great programs to show their leadership ability on women's voice to be heard.
About HOH: The Help Our Homeland (HOH) Association was established and was legally registered as an NGO at the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia on December 13, 2004. It is an independent, non-governmental and voluntary body, incorporated in the form of non-profit and non-political alliance. The initiative to establish the association came from a free decision of a group of individual hometown leaders of broad opportunities to support and contribute to developing Cambodia’s human resources while observing various social issues which were results of several decades of war in the country. Our vision is "Prosperity in Our Homeland," and our mission is to provide hope and promote family happiness by building personal leadership and self-reliability, developing human resources and by contributing to economic development in our homeland. HOH is focused on five main programs: youth empowerment, family happiness, strengthening the quality of teachers, the job opportunity and commercial networking and religion and development. HOH has also empowered young women to become leaders through consulting, mentoring, coaching, on-the-job training and through radio programs.
