The Department of Mathematical Sciences has a very active group of
3 analysts whose research interests lie in the areas of complex analysis,
commutative Banach algebras, operator theory and harmonic analysis. There is a weekly analysis seminar
for faculty and graduate students. Several different topics are discussed
in the seminar throughout the year with each participant typically giving
three to five lectures. Usually two or three distinguished analysts |
visit
the department each year to give lectures and for consultation. In past years
visitors have included: Z. Slodkowski, P. Muhly, N. Rao, B. Schreiber, L. Hanin, S. Grigoryan, W. Zelazko, K. Jarosz, A. Boettcher, S. Axler, V. Bergelson, J. Cima, J. Diestel, R.
Gariepy, K. Izuchi, A. Matheson, K. Petersen, E. Stout and W. Wogen. The
analysts hosted an NSF-CBMS Conference on Singular Integral Operators with
Michael Christ as principal lecturer during the summer of 1989.
