Khaled Huthaily is a doctoral candidate in Curriculum and Instruction. He is a Fulbright scholar from Yemen, who has been in the US since 2001. He teaches Advanced Arabic and is conducting research that focuses on the acquisition of Arabic phonology (sound system) by native speakers of American English. He is also the lead researcher and author of a new Arabic language textbook to be published under a Title VI three-year grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education and ending in 2010.

Mr. Huthaily has worked as an English-Arabic/Arabic-English teacher, translator, interpreter and linguistics and technology specialist at the UM and his home country, Yemen. He has been actively involved in several national and international teacher training projects and workshops in education and technology.

  • English-Arabic Interpreter and Translator: Interpreting English-Arabic communications for the University of Montana, the Police Department, and local hospitals and clinics.
  • Arabic Language Mentor: Helping students of Arabic at The University of Montana as well as the Missoula community to improve their Arabic language skills
  • Touch-Typing Tutor: I help American learners of Arabic to develop touch-typing skills in Arabic, and Arabic learners of English to develop touch-typing skills in English.
  • Computer Maintenance: I volunteered to help students and community members to fix operating system problems and to install new hardware devices and small-office networking.
  • Speaker on Islam and the Middle East: Institutions include The University of Montana as well as local schools and churches
