2005 to present: Unit Leader, Montana Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit, University of Montana, Missoula.

1999 - 2005: Assistant Unit Leader (Wildlife) and Assistant Professor, Alabama Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, Auburn University, Alabama. 

1997 - 1999: Visiting Assistant Professor, Departments of Zoology and Forestry, North Carolina State University, Raleigh.  Taught Wildlife Management, Evolutionary Biology, Introductory Biology, Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, and (as co-instructor) a graduate seminar on Habitat Conservation Plans; research included modeling the abundance and distribution of migratory birds on a managed forest landscape using a multi-scale assessment of habitat.

1993 - 1997: Research/Teaching Assistant, Department of Zoology, North Carolina State University, Raleigh.  Developed spatially explicit, individual-based optimization models and used them to evaluate hypotheses of how limiting resources structure the home ranges of female black bears. Taught graduate lab in Mammalogy and undergraduate lab in General Zoology.

January - May 1993: Research Assistant, North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, North Carolina State University, Raleigh.  Developed Stewardship Wildlife Notes (landowner guidelines for wildlife management) for use in the Forest Stewardship Program.

1990 - 1992: Research/Teaching Assistant, Department of Forestry, North Carolina State University, Raleigh.  Evaluated effects of silvicultural practices on mammal and avian communities in pocosin wetlands.  

1983 - 1990: Commissioned Officer in U.S. Marine Corps.  Earned rank of Captain (O-3), with following designations: Naval Aviator in UH-1N Helicopters, Weapons and Tactics Instructor, Functional Check Pilot.
