Michael Murphy began teaching at The University of Montana in the fall of 1995. He brings to this University 18 years of professional involvement in theatre, film and television as an actor and director, both in New York City and Los Angeles. He is one of the founding members of the Media Arts faculty and served as its director form 1997-2006. His areas of teaching include directing and acting for film on both the graduate and undergraduate level.
Michael's work covers a range of areas, including film, theatre and installation work for which he has received numerous awards, including a Fulbright Grant, which allowed him to create a new media and performance installation (sleepwalker no. 1) in Ireland in March of 2012. Other recent work includes directing Mozart's opera The Marriage of Figaro, acting in Samuel Beckett's masterpiece Krapp's Last Tape, and collaborating on two award winning short films, Leonard Hotel Suite and Be Again. His most recent work was a highly successful media-performance installation, without having ended…, that was an interdisciplinary collaboration with members of Schools of Media Arts, Theatre and Dance, Art, and Music.
