Impacted Nations offers 52 works by contemporary Native American artists addressing the conflict between Native people's relationship to the earth and the political and economic forces that undermine it. This traveling exhibition was organized by Honor the Earth, a national Native American organization founded by Winona LaDuke (see information below about her upcoming visit).

MODERNIST ART LOANS ON VIEW


 

 

The Montana Museum of Art & Culture has received several generous loans of major modernist works from private collections, viewable at two campus locations.

In the UM Mansfield Library lobby through April 9, 2008 is Colonne de Rêve (Dream Column), by surrealist Jean Arp (1886-1966). Mansfield Library hours vary throughout the school year. Please contact the library for open hours at 243-6866 or at www.lib.umt.edu.

Two works are on view in the UM President's Office Lobby:
The President's Office Lobby, located in Main Hall is open to the public Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm, except on holidays.

E.O.W. on her Blue Eiderdown, by British artist Frank Auerbach (b. 1931) will be on view through May 15, 2008.
White Relief (2), by British artist Ben Nicholson (b. 1894), just arrived and is available for public viewing through May 15, 2008.

ART APPRECIATION SHORT COURSE
 

Very Visual: Art Appreciation and Visual Literacy,
February 2008

40 people signed up for the Very Visual: Art Appreciation and Visual Literacy course, taught by local art historian Ted Hughes. Filled with plenty of eye candy and informative, lively content, the non-credit short course provides tools for viewers to look at and discuss the vast spectrum of visual arts. It's also a way to build confidence toward tour guiding!

MONTANAN ARTICLE PROFILES MMAC

The University of Montana's magazine, the Montanan, published in its Winter 2008 edition an article about MMAC's history and current campaign to raise funds for a dedicated museum building. The article, written by Ginny Merriam, is titled "The States's Hidden Treasure: UM Seeks Home for the Permanent Collection," and can be found on pages 14 - 19.
