RECENT ACQUISITION

Carmen Malsch, Portrait of Rudy Autio

Carmen Malsch, Portrait of Rudy Autio, oil on canvas, 2003

This portrait of Rudy Autio, painted by UM alum Carmen Malsch, was generously donated to MMAC by the artist in response to the news of Rudy's death.

Malsch, who lives in Palm Springs, CA, completed a BFA at UM in 1998, where she went on to study printmaking as a graduate student.  Her current interests are in portraiture.  This piece was a study for a larger painting.  Malsch states that she was inspired to do a portrait of Rudy in 2003 in order to try to capture "the beauty of his face . . . the resonation of his character through his features."   MMAC is very grateful for the donation, which is on display in the exhibition, Rudy Remembered (1926-2007) through August 9, 2007.
