Sean Chandler uses his characteristic style of traditional A Ani nin (Gros-Ventre) symbols and his personal abstractions on a polychrome background to address the tragic and sensitive subject matter, Indian Holocaust. The artist explains that the traditional symbols “are intended as a tribute to all my ancestors and to my father, who taught me these old ways (...)   The other imagery I use consists of feelings, thoughts, and experiences I have dealt with in my life. The figures are an expression of ugliness to show how people may view each other. In that, I am showing ignorance in the way some non-Indians or even how some Indians view Indians.”
