This exhibition celebrates the work of University of Montana Professor of Art, Marilyn Bruya. Professor Bruya teaches painting and drawing and is retiring after 25 years at UM. Bruya's recent work explores the physical world as representative of inner experience, and references the transitory nature of life.

MAJOR ART LOAN TO MMAC ON VIEW IN UM MANSFIELD LIBRARY

Wilhelm Lehmbruck, Torso of a Walking Woman, or Torso Turning, 37.5" high, conceived ca. 1914, cast in the 1920s

MMAC is excited to announce its second major art loan from an anonymous private collector.

Torso of a Walking Woman, or Torso Turning, by German Expressionist sculptor Wilhelm Lehmbruck (1881-1919), is on display from April 10, 2007 through July 23, 2007 in the Mansfield Library lobby. Considered to be one of the artist's most important works, it embodies the artist's mature style.

The Montana Museum of Art & Culture, the UM Gallery of Visual Arts, the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula, and the Missoula Art Museum have been working together as the Missoula Museum Collective. The collective was initiated in 2005 "as a means to improve communication between arts institutions in the community, avoid redundancy in scheduling and programming and to provide avenues to initiate collaborative efforts whenever possible."

The Museum Collective strives to support the community’s cultural well being and works together to demonstrate and reinforce professional museum practices.


STEAM TUNNEL CONSTRUCTION IN PROGRESS - WE ARE STILL OPEN

The campus-wide steam tunnel upgrade construction project is in full swing. Visitors to campus can't miss the fenced off construction sites, one of which is adjacent to the PARTV Center, home to our Meloy and Paxson Galleries.

Our galleries will maintain regular hours during this project. This phase of the project is due to last through October, 2007. The northeast and east entrances of the PARTV Center will remain accessible for visitors. Follow this link for updates on this project.


COMING UP: NEW SUMMER HOURS

The Montana Museum of Art & Culture's Meloy and Paxson Galleries will be closed over Memorial Day weekend Friday, May 25 and Saturday, May 26. MMAC will switch to summer hours effective Friday, June 1. A schedule of Wednesday through Saturday, 11am - 3pm will be observed through August, 2007.
