MAJOR ART LOANS ON VIEW |
|
|
Seated Female Semi-Nude, Green Blouse by Egon Schiele (1890 - 1918) is the fifth major art loan from an anonymous collector. It is on display in the UM President's Office lobby through September 13, 2007. Egon Schiele led a short life marked by personal tragedy and struggle. During his career, he emerged from the Viennese Secessionist tradition and the influence of his mentor Gustav Klimt to become a premier Expressionist Painter. Schiele's work, controversial during his time, carries a timeless resonance through its existential explorations of the human condition. The UM President's Office Lobby is open Mondays - Fridays, 8am - 5pm (closed holidays). |
Wilhelm Lehmbruck, Torso of a Walking Woman, or Torso Turning, 37.5" high, conceived ca. 1914, cast in the 1920s |
Torso of a Walking Woman, or Torso Turning, by German Expressionist sculptor Wilhelm Lehmbruck (1881-1919), is on display through July 23, 2007 in the Mansfield Library lobby. Wilhelm Lehmbruck is considered one of Germany’s most important sculptors. Influenced by other Modernist sculptors such as August Rodin and Constantin Brancusi, Lehmbruck was active at a time of rapid change in the art world. His mature work, characterized by stylized, elongated figures in pensive poses and primarily in the mediums of stone or cast stone, is embodied in Torso of a Walking Woman. | RECENT ACQUISITIONS | |
Nijat Hushur, Taklamakan |
MMAC received another generous donation from Helen Cappadocia of works by four contemporary Chinese artists. These works were part of the traveling exhibition, Ancient Threads, Newly Woven: Recent Art from China's Silk Road, coordinated by the Meridian International Center based in Washington D.C. This wonderful exhibition was on view in the MMAC galleries in Fall 2005. Ms. Cappadocia, who was quite taken with the exhibition, purchased four pieces and donated them to MMAC. We are honored and grateful to add these works to our collection. At left is a painting by Nijat Hushur. Mr. Hushur was born in Shanshan, Xinjiang, and is currently completing a Masters degree in Berlin, Germany. Other works purchased include Camel in the Desert, by Li Anning;Yellow Trees, by Yu Wenya; and The Feeling of Snow and Ice by Wang Junbing. |
