May 5 - August 19, 2006 Featuring a broad range of approaches to the landscape genre, this exhibition couples excerpts from the journals of Lewis and Clark with landscapes along the route of the Expedition. Included are works by Ralph DeCamp, E.S. Paxson, Theodore Waddell, Jerome Rankin, Henry Meloy, and many more. Featured here is Sacajawea, by Edgar Samuel Paxson. A Missoula artist and contemporary of C.M. Russell and John Fery, Paxson created many well-researched paintings depicting historic events and figures. The Lewis and Clark Expedition was one of his favorite subjects; he painted 13 works relating to the Expedition. This piece, ranked as one of his best works, was restored in 2004. REGIONAL CALL FOR ENTRIES WATERSHED STORIES Shutterbugs of all abilities, young and old, are invited to get their cameras out and document life in the Missoula, Blackfoot, and Silverbow watersheds. | MMAC TRAVELING EXHIBITION |

Charles Fritz - Opening Reception, Thursday, June 15, 5:30pm This MMAC sponsored national traveling exhibition features the work of Billings artist Charles Fritz. By the end of its tour, it will have visited six venues in five states. To create this unprecedented series, Fritz traveled to many of the actual sites visited by Lewis and Clark, painting studies of the landscapes and important discoveries encountered by the Expedition. | LEWIS AND CLARK IN THE ROCKIES BICENTENNIAL FESTIVAL |
As part of the Lewis and Clark in the Rockies Bicentennial Festival, the Montana Museum of Art & Culture will host a booth at Southgate Mall, June 22-25, 11am-6pm. We will have exhibition catalogs and prints for sale, including Charles Fritz-An Artist with the Corps of Discovery, a full color catalog with text by Stephen and Stephanie Ambrose and Harry Fritz; and Contemporary Native Amerian Art-Reflections after Lewis and Clark. Prints for sale will include several signed, limited edition lithographs by Charles Fritz, and limited edition lithographs of works from MMAC's Permanent Collection, including E.S. Paxson's Sacajawea. For those who can't make it to the mall during this time, these catalogs and prints are also available at our Meloy and Paxson Galleries.
