Only four more days are available to view this exhibition celebrating the work of recently retired University of Montana Professor of Art, Marilyn Bruya. Professor Bruya taught painting and drawing for 25 years at UM. Bruya's work explores the physical world as representative of inner experience, and references the transitory nature of life.

Much loved luminary of the ceramic art world, teacher, and friend, Rudy Autio, died from leukemia Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at his home in Missoula. He will be deeply missed. Autio was a prolific artist who gained international recognition for his innovations in ceramic art. He taught for the UM Art Department from 1957 - 1983.

MMAC will honor his life and his work in an exhibition titled Rudy Remembered, July 12 - August 9, 2007, in the Paxson Gallery. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 21, 4pm in the Montana Theater of the UM PARTV Center, Click here to read more about Rudy Autio.

2. Cavalcade, ceramic vessel, James E. Todd Building, Continuing Education lobby

4. Flathead Valley, ceramic tile wall mural completed with Ward Devlin, The William and Rosemary Gallagher Building, student lounge
5. Grizz, cast bronze, UM Oval
6. Signal, concrete and ceramic outdoor sculpture, located on yard between Miller Hall and Arthur Ave.
7. Building facade relief panel, Liberal Arts Building, SE corner

MAJOR ART LOANS ON VIEW
 

Egon Schiele, Seated Female Semi-Nude, Green Blouse

Wilhelm Lehmbruck, Torso Turning, cast stone

Seated Female Semi-Nude, Green Blouse by Egon Schiele (1890 - 1918) is the fifth major art loan from an anonymous collector. It is on display in the UM President's Office lobby through September 13, 2007.

The UM President's Office Lobby is open Mondays - Fridays, 8am - 5pm (closed holidays).

Torso of a Walking Woman, or Torso Turning, by German Expressionist sculptor Wilhelm Lehmbruck (1881-1919), is on display through July 23, 2007 in the Mansfield Library lobby.

MMAC extends special thanks and best wishes to Hattie Jo Lehman. Hattie served as an intern for MMAC January - December, 2006, and then worked January - June, 2007 on an MMAC cataloging project for the Cappadocia Collection of Hmong Textiles. Hattie received her M.A. in Art History from UM in 2005 with an emphasis in textiles. A native of Pennsylvania, she is returning to the east coast to focus on professional pursuits. She added wonderful energy and expertise to MMAC. We wish her well.


SUMMER HOURS

MMAC is now observing its summer schedule of Wednesdays through Saturdays, 11am - 3pm. This schedule will be observed through August 31, 2007.
