Henry Meloy: The Portraits

July 12 - August 9, 2007
Paxson Gallery

This exhibition features the works of Montana native Henry Meloy (1902 - 1951). Meloy's portraits, which employ modernist approaches to line and form, convey emotive detail in his depictions of family and friends. These portraits are part of a permanent loan to MMAC from the Henry Meloy Educational Trust. After the exhibition's debut at MMAC, it will travel to through a Montana Art Gallery Directors Association sponsored tour to various venues throughout Montana.

INTERN PROFILES

(L) Ted Hughes
(R) Kathy Rodriguez

MMAC regularly works with UM student interns. This summer we are happy to have on board two particularly dedicated interns.

Ted Hughes, who recently completed his Masters in Art History is helping MMAC with general cataloging, research and exhibition needs. His Masters thesis focused on MMAC's own Flemish Tapestry. His artist background and his passion for art history have contributed wonderful energy to MMAC operations.

Kathy Rodriguez, a Masters Candidate in Painting and Art History, has been busy conducting research on the life and work of Henry Meloy. Her research has been invaluable in the preparation of the exhibition, Henry Meloy: The Portraits. Through hours of poring over Henry Meloy's sketchbooks and correspondence, and interviews with Meloy's nephew, Mike Meloy, Kathy created an insightful essay on Henry Meloy, which will be available at the MMAC galleries during the exhibition.

SPECIAL THANKS

Christine Cleveland

MMAC bids farewell to Administrative Associate Christine Cleveland, who moves on to a new chapter of her life this month. Christine recently completed a B.F.A. in Studio Art at UM with an option in Printmaking, option in Art Education, and with an English Teaching minor.

Christine was married last month and will move to Billings, where she plans to complete her student teaching in Spring, 2008 and continue her printmaking.

Christine has been an indispensible team player since she arrived on staff October, 2006. She brought to MMAC experience in gallery management as well as invaluable insight as an artist and student. We wish her well as she establishes her career as an artist and teacher.
