COMING SOON A new book on the life of Montana Architect A.J. Gibson, published by The University of Montana Press in partnership with the Montana Museum of Art & Culture is due out in mid-July, 2008. The Original Man: The Life and Work of Montana Architect A.J. Gibson, by Hipólito Rafael Chacón, Ph.D., traces the life of one of Montana's best known and most beloved architects. Active from the 1880s to the 1910s, he defined great architecture in western Montana and northern Idaho and literally reshaped the western town from a rustic accumulation to a rational and civilized space. His architectural and urban legacy has endured for over a century throughout western Montana and includes the first five buildings for The University of Montana in Missoula, the Missoula County Courthouse, and the Daly Mansion near Hamilton, MT. The book will be available for purchase at the UM Bookstore or by contacting us at 206.243.2019 or museum@umontana.edu. |
