January 16 - February 26, 2008

Impacted Nations offers 52 works by contemporary Native American artists addressing the conflict between Native people's relationship to the earth and the political and economic forces that undermine it. This traveling exhibition was organized by Honor the Earth, a national Native American organization founded by Winona LaDuke (see information below about her upcoming visit).

•Tuesday, February 26, 6-8pm, Meloy Gallery: Closing reception with 7pm film screening of Homeland and gallery talk by Winona LaDuke

The Montana Museum of Art & Culture has received several generous loans of major modernist works from private collections, viewable at two campus locations.

In the UM Mansfield Library lobby through April 9, 2008 is Colonne de Rêve (Dream Column), by surrealist Jean Arp (1886-1966). Mansfield Library hours vary throughout the school year. Please contact the library for open hours at 243-6866 or at www.lib.umt.edu.

Three works are on view in the UM President's Office Lobby:
The President's Office Lobby, located in Main Hall is open to the public Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm, except on holidays.
Untitled I
by Abstract Expressionist master Willem de Kooning
(1904 - 1997) will be on display through February 8, 2008.
E.O.W. on her Blue Eiderdown, by British artist Frank Auerbach (b. 1931) will be on view through April 26, 2008.
White Relief (2), by British artist Ben Nicholson (b. 1894), just arrived and is available for public viewing through April 30, 2008.

ART APPRECIATION SHORT COURSE - Early Registration Deadline January 31, 2008

Interested in brushing up on your art knowledge? Want to speak in more eloquent, concise and confident terms about art? MMAC is collaborating with the Missoula Art Museum and the Art Associates of Missoula to offer "Very Visual: Art Appreciation and Visual Literacy," taught by local art historian, Ted Hughes, in the UM University Center Room 326. Classes will meet from 4-6pm on February 5, 12, and 19. Cost is $26 for those who register by 5pm Thursday, January 31, and $35 after. To register, call MMAC at 243-2019 or email museum@umontana,edu. Karen Rice
Programs and Publications Coordinator

Karen Rice has worked for MMAC as Programs and Publications Coordinator since May, 2004. She received her M.F.A. in Painting from The University of Montana, and continues to be a successful, creative practicing artist. In her role at MMAC, she oversees the design and production of museum publications and coordinates museum programs, among a wide variety of other tasks. Her hard work is much-valued and much-appreciated at MMAC!
