Message from the Director
Welcome to The University of Montana School of Music, one of the nation's most remarkable centers of musical education, scholarship, and performance. The UM School of Music is leader in the Pacific Northwest in the arts where talented students work with our distinguished faculty who are leading performers, scholars, and music educators. Our alumni occupy prominent places in music schools, symphony orchestras, and public schools. Our chamber and large ensembles regularly tour Montana, the nation, and the world.
At The University of Montana’s School of Music, opportunities for scholarship and performance are nearly unlimited: our School of Music orchestras, bands, choirs, jazz and chamber ensembles annually present a series of concerts that are a showcase of musical activity in Western Montana; our artist-performers are active in our community as well as on the national concert scene; our music education faculty are national leaders in the scholarship and pedagogy of music teaching and learning; and our musicology and faculty composers are at the forefront of music scholarship, research and musical creation on an international scale.
I encourage you to schedule a visit to campus, meet our faculty and students, and get to know our performance, teaching, and research facilities. I hope that you will experience in person the vibrancy of our nationally recognized programs of study and celebrated performing ensembles, and see first-hand the remarkable scholarly and artistic community that is The University of Montana’s School of Music. On behalf of almost 30 teaching faculty and our 300 music majors, thank you for your interest in The University of Montana School of Music.
