Announcing New Scholarships!
Missoula Symphony Internship Scholarships: MSO participation, classes in orchestral technique, style, and repertoire. Pedagogy Outreach Scholarship: Teach private lessons for public school students.

String Audition Requirements

  1. One three-octave scale.
  2. 10 minute performance of work or works from the standard repertory demonstrating contrasting style, tempo, technique, and/or articulation.

Professor of Violin and Viola, Concertmaster of the Missoula Symphony and Leader of the String Orchestra of the Rockies. Violinist in the Montana Piano Trio and the Sapphire Clarinet Trio. With these chamber groups Dr. Baldridge has toured in four Middle Eastern countries, Japan, Ireland, Austria, and Germany. She holds degrees from The Eastman School of Music and Northwestern University. For 10 years she was on the faculty of the prestigious Brevard Music Center.
Fern Glass Boyd, Cello – fern.glass@umontana.edu, 406-243-5371
Professor of Cello. Cellist of the Montana Piano Trio and principal cellist of the Missoula Symphony and the String Orchestra of the Rockies, for which she currently serves as Artistic Director. In addition to teaching cello and coaching chamber ensembles at UM, she teaches courses in the areas of music literature, music appreciation, and string music education. Active as a recitalist and clinician, she is a frequent soloist and adjudicator throughout Montana and the region. Her degrees are from The Eastman School of Music and Yale University.
Dr. Luis Millán, Director of Orchestral Studies, Guitar – luis.millan@umontana.edu, 406-243-6836
Associate Professor of Music, Conductor of University of Montana Symphony Orchestra, Director of the Classical Guitar studio, and Orchestra Director of Montana Lyric Opera. Dr. Millán is in demand as a guest conductor and clinician throughout the northwest and across the country. He is also active as a classical guitar performer including recent tours in Spain and China. Dr. Millán holds degrees from St. Olaf College and Michigan State University.
Martha Ilgenfritz , String Bass
Adjunct Professor. Currently serves as the Music Director for Corvallis Middle School and President of Montana Strings Teachers’ Association. She has an expertise in the stringed instruments of violin, viola, cello, and bass. Ilgenfritz also runs a string orchestra program for pre-K through 12th grade, as well as adult classes. In her free time she plays the double bass with the Missoula Symphony Orchestra, and holds private lessons in bass and cello. Martha holds a Bachelors of Music-Strings from the University of Michigan.
