The Voice Division presents the student singer with both studio and classroom instruction and numerous performance opportunities. Individual instruction by active, performing artists/teachers is available to majors and minors (and to non-majors on a space-available basis). Classes are offered in vocal pedagogy, diction, repertoire, history of opera, history of musical theater, and singing for non-majors, among others. In addition to solo recitals, the School of Music’s choral ensembles and the Opera Theater provide in-depth training and experience. Students may also participate in musical theater productions in collaboration with the Drama/Dance department and MCT Community Theater. Graduates in vocal performance have successfully pursued professional careers, most recently with such companies as Opera San Jose, Intermountain Opera, Utah FestivalOpera, Portland Opera, and on Broadway.
