- Students must hold a bachelor's degree in music, drama or dance, or have had commensurate experience to qualify for admittance into this degree program.
- Students entering the MM program in Musical Theatre who do not have a bachelor's degree in music must take a proficiency examination in music theory. Students requiring further work in music theory will be asked to complete specific courses during their first year of study.
- Students entering the MM program in Musical Theatre must perform placement auditions for voice, acting and dance at the time of matriculation.
- Students will be placed into various courses in Acting and Dance and Movement, but will register for them under THTR 517 and THTR 525.
- Electives are chosen in consultation with a major advisor.
- Independent Study may be substituted for required courses with the approval of the major advisor and the faculty member directing the study.
- At least 50% of the program must be at the 500-600 level.
- Students are encouraged to use summers for either coursework or internships.
- A Comprehensive Oral Exam is required at the conclusion of the coursework, internship and professional project.
1 Placement in acting and dance will be based on a student's prior audition. Students receiving a GTA or scholarship are exempt from the placement audition in voice.
