Discover the many opportunities and pleasures of meeting other musicians and playing in a group for music majors and non-majors alike.
We offer several ensembles and bands for non-majors, such as Women’s Choir, Concert Band, University Choir, Marching Band, Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. To join one of these groups you are required to audition for placement. Auditions are done at the beginning of the fall semester.
Playing an instrument or singing in an ensemble enhances musical understanding and improves a student’s ability to perform in solo recitals or large ensemble settings. Participants develop important instrumental and voice skills, such as:
- Ensemble cueing
- Group intonation
- Rhythmic interaction
- Leadership and listening skills
UM School of Music offers a wide variety of ensemble opportunities. Check out the links at left to learn more about specific offerings.
