Grizzly Marching Band Freshman Information
ATTENTION INCOMING FRESHMEN AND NEW UM STUDENTS
Welcome to The University of Montana! We hope you are looking forward to your experience at UM and that you are planning to enhance that with an exciting season with the Grizzly Marching Band! Not only is the band open to all students on the UM Campus and COT, as a new student you will enjoy many advantages such as early dorm move-in (avoiding the crowds of opening weekend), the opportunity to meet over 100 new friends before school even begins, as well as the ever-popular GMB scholarship ($500-1000) to help get you through your first semester on campus. What a great way to begin your UM experience!
I will be sending out an email message of information about the 2011 season to all GMB members. It should arrive sometime in July. It will contain information about the coming season, along with important details pertaining to your early move-in options, summer orientation suggestions, and registration and band camp information. THE GMB PRE-SEASON BAND CAMP WILL BE HELD MONDAY, AUGUST 22 THROUGH FRIDAY, AUGUST 26, 2011.
If you are not already a member of the band, your confirmation will be due by AUGUST 20, 2011 in order to ensure you receive any additional information before the season begins. Please take some time to visit our website for more information about the band. You will find a season schedule, camp information as well as links to other important UM departments online. If you don't find all of the answers to questions you have, please do not hesitate to contact our office at (406) 243-2959, or email us at email@example.com. We look forward to having you with us this fall.
Again, welcome to The University of Montana and GO GRIZ!
If you are planning to be a member of the 2011 Grizzly Marching Band, you should sign up for one of the two Summer Orientation sessions. Please note that if you sign up for the Fall Orientation, this will conflict with the required pre-season band camp. If you have further questions about the orientation program, please visit the UM Orientation website at www.umt.edu/nss/orientation, or call the marching band office with specific questions you may have regarding how your participation in the GMB may affect your orientation options.
And don't forget - by attending one of the Summer Orientation sessions, you will be the FIRST new students at UM register for fall classes and will have more choices!
If you are planning to live on campus during the 2011-12 academic school year, have been assigned to a UM residence hall and are going to be a member of the 2011 Grizzly Marching Band you will have the option of moving into your assigned room early. The GMB will cover the cost of on campus housing (Sun. - Fri.) and food for all members of the band (Mon.-Fri.) during the required pre-season band camp. In the event that you wish to move to campus before Sunday, August 21, you will be responsible for those charges and will need to contact the Residence Life Office to make necessary arrangements.
The Grizzly Marching Band is a class and qualifies for general elective credit towards your degree curriculum. The class meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:10-5:40 pm and includes several Saturday performances (home Griz games). Course registration numbers can be found in your course guide or on the registration website. The course number for Marching band is MUSI 155A for Freshman and Sophomores and MUSI 355 for Juniors and Seniors. Scheduling this class can be taken care of at your summer orientation session. Make sure to tell your advisor that you wish to be a member of the 2011 Grizzly Marching Band. You MUST be registered for the class in order to receive the scholarship.
