Recognition for the Grizzly Marching Band

Date: Monday, September 15, 2008
Subject: A Great Band

I don't know how the band could get any better than the bands in the recent past, but I was overwhelmed by the quality of music displayed at the southern Utah game. The tone was set at the opening, with a "straight", sing-along version of our Anthem, then the Montana and U of M traditionals. The decibel level emitting from the powerful stadium speakers, enhanced by the "bowl effect" from the stadium addition, squelched much of the college game atmosphere the band set in motion, but fortunately it was revived at halftime.

That first "concert band" number was so beautiful, it nearly brought me to tears. The brass was crisp, and percussion section was at its usual perfection.

[A comment made to the director by a Griz Fan during the pavilion performance just prior to the National Championship game. The band was in the middle of a rockin' performance of Sing, Sing, Sing.]

If Montanans aren't proud of this, they aren't proud of anything! These guys are great!

Your half time show at the game last Saturday was the best of the season. I really, really appreciated that you came to play to the north end zone. Please do it again next season. Your performances get better and better each week. Our compliments and thanks to each of you. See you in Chattanooga!!! Go Griz!!

On a lighter note, don’t you all enjoy The University of Montana band? They are so much fun this year - enthusiastic, talented, good musicians.

Congratulations to the band and their director for their presentation and performance at half time of their Homecoming game. The rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" was also very special.

I can’t tell how thrilled I was to hear our Grizzly Marching Band coming down Washington Street in Cheney on Saturday. Their performances at the park and at the game were wonderful. They always add such an element to all the excitement of game day. Please pass our "atta boys and girls" to your new marching band director and to the students themselves. A job very well done!!!

Subject: What a band!

I have been wanting to compliment your wonderful band, and particularly the percussion section, as I did last year, through Dr. Cook. I finally figured out how to get your e-mail address. . . . At last week's play off game, the straight rendition of our anthem, gave me chills (and it wasn't that cold). It was a neat idea having the percussion section do their thing at various stations around the stadium. The whole program was absolute perfection and seems to me to be such an important boost for college football spirit.

Looking forward to next year.

We who stayed in the stadium at halftime on Saturday were treated to a great performance. The Grizzly Marching Band sounded great, their showmanship was tremendous and the soloists enormously talented. Bravo.
