Graduate Program

Program Description

The graduate programs at the School of Music offer individualized, focused musical training with options in music education, musical theater, vocal performance, instrumental performance, and composition. Seminar-style, intimate classroom experiences and on-line courses combine with traditional one-on-one teaching to provide the graduate student a flexible, personalized learning environment.
More than two dozen resident full-time faculty members, representing a diverse background of musical experiences, are directly involved in the teaching and mentoring of graduate students.  Visiting faculty members and guest artists and clinicians offer additional unique learning opportunities.  Missoula's abundant cultural and artistic community organizations and activities serve to further enhance learning and experiential opportunities for personal, academic and musical growth.
School of Music facilities include the Music Recital Hall, computer and recording lab facilities, smart classrooms, rehearsal spaces, and a suite of practice rooms all housed in the Music Building, a building that has been placed on the historic registry for its unique architecture.  Students and faculty members perform in other campus and community venues such as the UM Dennison Theater, the UM Montana Theatre, and the Missoula Community Theater, among others.
