Dwyer, Dylan
Dylan Dwyer is a master’s student in saxophone performance and graduate teaching assistant in the band department this year. He is currently on leave of absence from Missoula County Public Schools, where he taught beginning and middle school band at Meadow Hill Middle School and Chief Charlo Elementary for the past three years. He was also the assistant band director at Hellgate High School for one year, and taught K-5 music, band and choir at Somers Middle School and Lakeside Elementary for two years.
Dylan received his bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Oregon in 2004, where he studied saxophone with J. Robert Moore and Colin Lippy. Other
saxophone teachers include Steven Jorheim (Lawrence Conservatory), and Todd DelGiudice (Eastern Washington University). As an education major, he was also actively involved in the University of Oregon jazz studies program, and had the opportunity to perform and study under Steve Owen. He served as president of the University of Oregon CMENC chapter in 2002. With fellow saxophonists from the Oregon Wind Ensemble, he formed the Twisted Oak Saxophone Quartet in 2002. TOSQ commissioned new music by Scott Unrein, and was invited to perform at the 2003 World Saxophone Congress in Minneapolis. Upon graduation, Dylan was awarded the University of Oregon’s Outstanding Performer in Woodwinds and Outstanding Undergraduate Performer awards. He plans to return to teaching in Missoula when his leave expires, and is extremely grateful for the opportunity to work and study at the University of Montana this year.
