Millán, Luis
Dr. Luis Millán, is Assistant Professor of Music and Orchestra Director at The University of Montana. His duties include conducting the orchestra, directing the Classical Guitar studio, and teaching Music Theory courses. In addition to conducting and teaching, Dr. Millán remains active as a classical guitarist and clinician throughout the region. Dr. Millán spends his summers as conductor and guitar teacher at The New England Music Camp in Sidney, Maine.
Before arriving in Montana, Dr. Millán directed the Orchestra Program at Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas; conducted youth orchestras in Topeka, Kansas, and Jackson and Saginaw, Michigan; served as Music Director of OPERA ONE and Opera Company of Mid-Michigan, Lansing, Michigan; and taught at Michigan State University's Community Music School and Flint Institute of Music, Flint, Michigan.
Dr. Millán holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota (1991) and Master of Music and Doctorate of Musical Arts degrees in Orchestral Conducting from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan (1993, 1997).
In addition to his musical pursuits, Dr. Millán enjoys competing in triathlons, playing golf, and hiking.
