Schuberg, Maggie
Margaret Lund Schuberg, Professor of Flute at The University of Montana, teaches university flutists, directs The University of Montana Flute Choir, coaches chamber music and teaches Music Theory and Aural Perception. Professor Schuberg has been on the UM Music faculty for 25 years. The UM Flute Choir was introduced in 1985 by Ms. Schuberg. It is comprised of flutes of all sizes including two new Bass Flutes donated by former Flute Choir member, Jill Bradford, and her friend Henry Tillman. In Spring 2010 the UM Flute Choir will travel to Vienna to participate in the UM Study Abroad Program.
Margaret Lund Schuberg performs with The International Flute Orchestra and has traveled with the ensemble to Greece and Poland. Ms. Schuberg is principal flutist with the Missoula Symphony Orchestra and performs with the Schuberg-Millan Flute/Guitar Duo, and the University of Montana Woodwind Trio. She has produced a CD, The Northwest Woodwind Trio. Her performances have been heard frequently on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today.” She is married to John Schuberg and they have two children, Benjamin and Jennifer.
Ms. Schuberg received her Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance, cum laude, from The University of California at Santa Barbara where she studied with William Kincaid protégé, Burnett Atkinson. Ms. Schuberg received her Master of Music in Flute Performance degree from The University of Montana, Missoula. Margaret Schuberg attended the Music Academy of the West in California, where she performed under esteemed conductor Maurice Abravanel. Her flute teachers include Eugene Foster and Michael Vance of the Utah Symphony, and Burnett Atkinson of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Ms. Schuberg has performed in flute master classes with Julius Baker, William Bennett, Bonita Boyd, James Walker and Richard Hahn. Ms. Schuberg has performed at National Flute Association Conferences, National Woodwind Festivals, and as an invited artist at National MTNA Conferences, at MENC All-Northwest Division Conferences, and at Super-Regional College Musicological Conferences where she has presented numerous world premieres of compositions. Ms. Schuberg has received three meritorious awards from The University of Montana.
