First Semester in Science, Math, and Technology

Your first semester in college is a time of discovery: learning how to balance life with classes, what expectations each professor has, where to eat or study on campus, and who to talk to if you have questions.  For many students, this can be a little overwhelming initially—then you add the decision of declaring a major on top of that?!  With ESP, we have tried to take some of the guess-work out of the process and provide you with a focused way of exploring multiple fields of study that you have interest in to discover what major is the best fit.

For the first semester in Science, Math, and Technology, you should meet with an academic advisor in the Undergraduate Advising Center to discuss your interests and craft a schedule.

We recommend building a first semester schedule that includes:

  • A Writing or General Education Course (3-4 cr.)
  • A Mathematics Course (3-4 cr.)
  • A Natural Science Course (3-5 cr.)
  • A Major Exploratory Course (1-3 cr.)

A list of course options in each of these areas, along with additional information, can be found in the Science, Math, and Technology Major Map form.
