nursesThe University of Montana offers students the opportunity to complete prerequisite requirements toward a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN).  While UM does not offer a BSN Program, students seeking to obtain an education in nursing work with the Pre-Nursing Advisor to complete required coursework to transfer to the program of their choice.  Below are options students may pursue in completing education in nursing:

Montana State University College of Nursing Bachelors of Science in Nursing Program

Pre-Nursing students interested in transferring to MSU's Traditional Bachelors of Science in Nursing program typically spend 4.5 years completing the curriculum through both the University of Montana and Montana State University.  As a University of Montana student you will begin by taking a minimum of 4 semesters (as a full-time student) to satisfy nursing prerequisite course requirements. After one or two semesters of prerequisite coursework, Pre-Nursing students begin MSU's application process for admission to MSU's UPPER DIVISION curriculum (the final two professional years) at one of MSU's upper division campuses located in Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls, Kalispell and Missoula.  If Missoula upper division placement is granted, it is possible to fulfill MSU's BSN curriculum in it's entirety in Missoula.

Nursing for Students Transfering to other Programs

Many options are available to complete nursing at other institutions in Montana and out of state.  Students typically take two years of Pre-Nursing course work at UM before transferring to the program of their choice.  UM's Pre-Nursing Advisor assists students in program and course selection along with the application process required for their desired transfer program.

Nursing for Second Degree Students

Students who have completed a Bachelors degree in a non-nursing field or who are close to completing a degree can complete nursing prerequisite courses at UM for their selected Bachelors of Science in Nursing or Masters of Science in Nursing program.  Students selecting this option coordinate with the UM Pre-Nursing Advisor in completing appropriate coursework for their chosen Second Degree BSN or Direct Entry MSN program.  Oftentimes students may find this path to be a quicker route to completing nursing when compared to a traditional BSN program.
