Second Degree Nursing Options

Students with a previous Bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field OR students close to completing a degree in a non-nursing field may consider completing prerequisite courses for a Second Degree BSN or Direct Entry Master’s program. Students may complete nursing prerequisites for the program they choose at UM. Contact the UM Pre-Nursing Advisor for assistance in program and course selection.

It is possible to complete accelerated BSN programs in as little as 12 to 16 months after completing prerequisite course work. Currently, the only accelerated BSN program in Montana is at Montana State University in Bozeman. For information on the MSU accelerated BSN program, please click here.

Completing a Direct Entry Master’s program in nursing may take one to two additional years after completing the BSN.

An excellent resource for more information on second degree nursing programs and a list of second degree  nursing programs can be found here, at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing website.
