Faculty Affiliate Appointment Policy and Procedures
Faculty Affiliates: Persons not principally employed by the University, or principally employed by the University in other than an academic capacity, but who contribute to the instructional, research and creative activity, or service functions of the University, usually with no or minimal compensation, who hold courtesy appointments as Faculty Affiliates. Schools, Departments, and Programs recommend these appointments annually for approval by the Provost.
- Faculty Affiliate appointments are valid from October 1 through September 30 of each academic year.
- New Faculty Affiliates will be approved by sending the Faculty Affiliate Recommendation form to the Office of the Provost for signature. Documentation of the applicant's qualifications and expected service contribution to the University must accompany the application. All new Faculty Affiliates will then be added to a database and will be on subsequent lists sent out each year by the Provost's office. Faculty Affiliate Recommendation Forms are available upon request from the Office of the Provost or online at Faculty Affiliate Recommendation Form (available in PDF format only).
- New Faculty Affiliate appointments may be made at any time during the year; however, departments/programs are encouraged to make such appointments at the beginning of each academic year.
- Faculty Affiliate appointments may be renewed each year without the submission of a new application. Prior to the beginning of the academic year, each department/program shall receive from the Office of the Provost a list of its prior year Faculty Affiliate appointments. Corrections and deletions shall be noted on this list that must be returned to the Office of the Provost for update and renewal of those affiliates remaining on the list.
- Faculty Affiliate privileges include the use of on-campus library facilites and, with the purchase of a Griz Card, Mountain Line Bus, UC Box Office, UC Computer Lab, UC Game Room, and Dining Services (with pre-payment).
- Departments/programs will, each year, send to each Faculty Affiliate a letter of appointment and a Faculty Affiliate Identification Card. Notice of Faculty Affiliate appointments will also be sent to the Mansfield Library, the Griz Card Office, the office of Computing and Information Services, and the Chair of the sponsoring department each year.
- Inquiries regarding Staff Affiliates should be directed to the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
