The University Planning Committee articulated a vision for a distinctive UM Core that draws upon our strong liberal arts foundation, and a set of Communities of Excellence that together represent a strong UM identity.

Our General Education Committee has begun the work of reimagining the UM Core curriculum so that students entering the institution receive a general education experience that uniquely represents the quality and broad-based foundation that UM is so well positioned to provide.

Sciences and the humanities will continue to sit at the heart of this foundational education. Our faculty will design a UM Core that cultivates students’ intellectual capabilities and exposes students to foundational knowledge.

The innovative UM Core will distinguish the UM undergraduate experience as one that embodies the Power of the And:  our students become not just capable experts in a focused area but also agile thinkers across domains and over their entire careers.
