Office of the Provost
and Vice President for Academic Affairs
In order to meet the criteria for emeritus status, a retiring faculty member must have been employed by The University of Montana for no less than ten years, and during that time, maintained a record of excellence in teaching, research/creativity, and service.
A department may nominate a retiring faculty member for an emeritus title by working with the college/school dean to make a recommendation to the Provost. The Provost will then make a recommendation to the President, who in turn will send the recommendation to the Board of Regents.
This is a unique Level II Proposal which requires only an item template form.
Please see Montana Board of Regents' Policy 702.7 and UM Policy 101.1 regarding emeriti procedures.
A sample emeritus Level II Proposal is provided in the sidebar.
