UNIVERSITY POLICEMission Statement: UM Police Uniform Patch

The University of Montana Police Department (UMPD) serves and protects the students, staff, faculty, and all people and property within the University of Montana campus and properties.

Police officers are on duty 24 hours a day, every day of the year.  The UMPD has the exclusive responsibility to act upon law-enforcement matters and perform police functions for the UM Main Campus and Colleges of Technology.  Police personnel are sworn peace officers, performing the same services as those of any municipal police agency.   They investigate all crimes and enforce federal, state, and local laws as well as University of Montana policies.

All sworn UMPD officers have successfully completed training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA) or equivalent training recognized by the Montana Peace Officer Standards and Training council.  In addition to the MLEA training, UMPD officers receive additional training throughout the year.
