ABOUT PUBLIC SAFETY
Welcome to The University of Montana Office of Public Safety.
We are here to help you enjoy a safe and secure environment while at The UM.
Tour our site for information and use the links in order to contact me or any staff member with questions.
Public Safety is comprised of 3 components:
POLICE officers with Public Safety are law enforcement officers with the same powers of arrest, training and equipment as any in the state. The UM officers are selected for their ability to exercise appropriate judgment and enforcement action in a university environment filled with young adults. Officers assist in the guidance of students as they live, learn and work in preparation for life after their academic experience. A 24/7 dispatch operation answers calls for assistance and directs appropriate responders.
PARKING is a shared limited resource managed by Public Safety. The department funnels income to Facility Services for parking development and maintenance. Income from fees and fines also supplement transportation options affording the opportunity for students, staff and faculty to utilize travel services at no-charge. Public Safety has a Parking Event Coordinator who assists departments in arranging customer access to ensure the success of their special events. Parking officers provide information, enforcement and conduct accident investigations.
PHYSICAL SECURITY - The University of Montana has businesses, housing and schools that require physical security. Our community members should feel safe where they live, learn and work. Our lock shop endeavors to provide needed access while protecting the people and property of The UM community.
