I. Purpose
This standard operating procedure describes the opening and closing procedures for the Health Science Building (HSB) and Skaggs Building (SB) Laboratory Animal Resource (LAR) Facilities.

II. Responsibility
It is the responsibility of all LAR employees to know and follow all opening and closing procedures to ensure proper security and log maintenance.

III. Procedures for Opening

• Health Sciences Building: Opening
  • Disarm the alarm.
  • Put the dirty laundry into the washer.
  • Unlock all doors.
  • Record all temperature and humidity readings using the log sheet located in HSB 009 (office) above the filing cabinet.
• North Skaggs Building: Opening
  • Disarm the alarm.
  • Unlock all doors.
  • Record all temperature and humidity readings using the log sheet located in the anteroom.

• South Skaggs Building: Opening
  • Disarm the alarms in 067 and 068.
  • Record all temperature and humidity readings using the log sheet located in the anteroom.

IV. Procedure for Close Out

• Health Science Building: Closeout
  • Sweep and mop HSB main corridor with Peroxigard floor dilution using the mop bucket located in the dirty cage wash room.
  • Mop the rodent surgery room (016A), clinical lab (016), and bathroom.
  • Empty all remaining trash from office, bathroom, surgery rooms, and dirty cage wash room.
  • Lock all HSB doors at 4:30 pm.
  • Double check that the ramp door is locked and the pin guard is in place.
  • Set HSB alarm at 5:00pm.
• North Skaggs Building: Closeout
  • Sweep and mop SB main corridor with Peroxigard floor dilution using the mop bucket located in the dirty cage wash room.
  • Mop procedure room SB033 and surgery room 035.
  • Empty all remaining trash from office, surgery rooms and dirty cage wash room.
  • Lock all SB doors at 4:30 pm.
  • Set SB alarm at 4:30 pm.

• South Skaggs Building: Close Out
  • Sweep and mop SB dirty cage was room, 067, 067A, and 067B with Peroxigard floor dilution.
  • Empty all remaining trash from all rooms.
  • Set south SB alarm at 4:30 pm.
