Safety Resources

Nighttime Escort Service. GrizWalk is a free, student-staffed safety service available at night seven days a week while school is in session. GrizWalk members will meet callers and walk them to their destinations, ensuring that no one on campus has to walk alone after dark. GrizWalk can be reached at (406) 243-2777.

Emergency Text Messages. UM students and employees signed up for the emergency text message system will receive a text message alert in the event of a campus emergency. To sign up, log in to Cyberbear and go to Personal Information. Set your preferences in the Emergency Text Messages section.

Smart911. Smart911 allows you to create a private safety profile that instantly transmits information you specify to the dispatcher's computer screen when you place an emergency call. This technology can relay critical information to emergency responders even if you are unable to communicate normally.

University Police. The UM Police Department can be reached 24 hours a day at (406) 243-4000 for emergencies, or (406) 243-6131 for non-emergencies. In the event of an emergency, anyone can call 9-1-1 to reach the Missoula City Police.

Title IX Coordinator. The Title IX Coordinator in the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action is responsible for responding to complaints about sexual harassment and assault, along with other grievances. All students, employees and university affiliates should feel comfortable calling the office to confidentially report an incident. All students should know how and where to report discrimination, including sexual harassment. Such reports are addressed equitably and promptly.

Sexual Misconduct Resources. UM also has its own website that provides comprehensive resources about all forms of sexual misconduct prevention and response.

Campus Safety Committee. UM's Campus Safety Committee develops and sustains a campus safety program that provides a safe working environment and protects members of the public. In an effort to reduce accidents and injuries on campus, the program provides easy access for reporting employee safety concerns or issues for evaluation by the committee. Reports about unsafe issues on campus can be sent to either of the committee co-chairs, (243-2700) or (243-4504).
