What Others are Saying
“This conference is not only an excellent way to stay abreast of the newest information on diabetes management, but also serves as a time to network with colleagues and experts to address some of the unique challenges of providing diabetes care within Montana,” said DPHHS Medical Officer Greg Holzman, a member of the conference planning committee.
“The way we talk to and about people with diabetes matters,” explains keynote speaker Jane Dickinson, RN, PhD, CDE of Fort Collins, CO. “Words create context and people shape meaning from what they hear and read. Words and messages can build people up or break them down. In diabetes care and education, we have an opportunity to become aware of the negative, judgmental language that has been used for decades. We can then make a change toward using strengths-based, person-centered, and empowering language.”
