About the Program

Are you nearing completion of a bachelor's degree in science?

Do you want to continue your science education at the graduate level but don't know how you will pay for it?

American Indian graduate students pursuing degrees in natural science at The University of Montana are eligible for a new scholarship program established by the A.P. Sloan Foundation. David Strobel, Dean of the Graduate School, is the academic supervisor of the program and Professor Penny Kukuk is the co-Principal Investigator of the grant.

The Sloan Scholars Program is intended to increase the number of American Indian students in the sciences. It provides supplemental funding of $30,000 over a two-year period for master's level students and $36,000 over a three-year period for doctoral students.

In additional to funding, UM Sloan Scholars will receive cultural support.  There will be a Sloan Scholars orientation program in August before school begins.  There will be ongoing meetings and activities for scholars to participate in.
