Six outstanding professors will explore unknown and untold stories in The University of Montana Alumni Association’s 11th annual Community Lecture Series – “Hidden Montana: Dispelling Myths” – during February and March.

The lectures will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Feb. 17-March 24, in the University Center Theater.

Tickets for the series cost $15 for UM Alumni Association members, $20 for the general public and $10 for students. Tickets go on sale Monday, Jan. 5, at the UM Office of Alumni Relations, located in Brantly Hall Room 115. They also are available by calling 406-243-5211 or 877-UM-ALUMS.

Series tickets are limited and sell out quickly. New UM Alumni Association memberships will be sold at half-price with the purchase of a lecture series ticket.

This year’s lecture series schedule is:

• Feb. 17:  UM history Professor Bill Farr, associate director of the Center for the Rocky Mountain West, presents “Selling Glacier: How Wilderness and the Blackfeet Became a Tourist Attraction.”
• Feb. 24: UM School of Journalism Dean Peggy Kuhr presents “Journalism’s Brave New World.”
• March 3: UM geography Senior Lecturer Rick Graetz presents, “Discovering New Territory: The Simple Grandeur of Montana East of the Mountains.”
• March 10: Professor Jim Lopach, chair of UM’s Department of Political Science presents “Jeannette We Hardly Know Ye.”
• March 17: UM history Professor Emeritus David Emmons presents “A Case of Mistaken Identity: Myth and Reality in Montana and Western History.”
• March 24: UM English Professor Debra Magpie Earling presents “The Writer’s Mystical/Mythical Guide: Finding the Lost Journals of Sacajawea.”

Each lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer session. A reception with refreshments will be held in the University Center after the last lecture event on March 24.
