UM Hosts Annual Conference on Undergraduate Research April 13
The 11th annual University of Montana Conference on Undergraduate Research will take place Friday, April 13, in the University Center.
UMCUR provides an opportunity for undergraduates of all majors to present their research and creative scholarship in a public forum. The conference is free and open to the public. All members of the UM campus community are encouraged to attend and participate.
Since 2001 UM has hosted an annual conference on Undergraduate Research, organized by the Undergraduate Research Committee in collaboration with the Davidson Honors College, and sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research and the Provost’s Office.
The daylong conference offers opportunities for UM students of all majors to present their research and creative scholarship through oral presentations, posters, performances and exhibits. Students are welcome to organize group presentations, where students within or across disciplines present roundtable discussions on their collaborative and interdisciplinary research activities.
More than $700 in awards for the top oral presentations and posters will be awarded in five areas:
- Visual and performing arts
- Humanities
- Social sciences
- Life sciences
- Physical sciences
UM undergraduate students of all majors are invited to submit proposals. Creative scholarship, exhibits, readings and performances are welcome, along with research presentations in all disciplines.
To propose a poster or oral presentation, students must submit an abstract of roughly 250 words on their research topic by Thursday, March 1. The student’s faculty mentor should review and approve the abstract prior to submission. All abstracts will be published in the conference program. Proposals must be submitted online at http://www.dhc.umt.edu/ugresearch/UMCUR/call_for_submissions.cfm.
For more information about the conference, visit the Undergraduate Research website at http://www.dhc.umt.edu/ugresearch/UMCUR. The website has an online proposal form, presentation templates, contact information and sample abstracts.
