ROGERS PASS

Rogers Pass was named after A.B. Rogers, in 1887, who was a surveyor for the Great Northern Railway. The pass is located in the Blackfoot Valley near Lincoln, Mt (also known as the basecamp of the Crown of the Continent). It is the best route between Missoula and Great Falls. Rogers pass spans the Continental divide, which means that this area sees extreme weather conditions. In fact, on January 20, 1954, the temperature dropped to 70 degrees below zero. This is the lowest temperature ever recorded in lower 48 states. This area is also a great place to observe golden eagles and other raptors. Strong westerly winds help migrating flocks to cross the continental divide so they can spend the summer on the Great Plains.
