UDASH Route and Schedule Changes
The ASUM Office of Transportation announces several changes to UDASH bus service for Fall Semester 2018. We’re making these changes to better align our services with demand. These changes are based on class schedule changes, road construction in our service area, and other factors.
Nighttime Schedule Change: The UDASH Red Line will run until 10:30 pm Monday through Friday. Bus service will be every 12 minutes from 7:00 am until 8:30 am, every 8 minutes from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm, every 12 minutes from 2:30 pm until 6:30 pm, and every 30 minutes from 6:30 pm until 10:30 pm.
Why the Change? There is strong demand for direct bus transportation to University Villages and Lewis & Clark Villages later into the evening. This change allows us to run our electric buses several more hours per day, which saves operating costs and reduces our emissions.
Schedule Changes: The UDASH Gold Line will no longer operate Monday through Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday, the Gold Line will run every 30 minutes from 10:00 pm until 2:30 am. On Saturday, the Gold Line will run from 7:00 pm until 2:30 am.
Downtown Routing Changes: The Gold Line will run a modified route in the downtown area. This route will follow Madison Street to Main Street to Higgins Avenue before returning to campus via S 6th Street W. The Gold Line will no longer serve the Mountain Line Transfer Center.
Why the Changes? Weekday Gold Line ridership has been declining for several years. ASUM's UDASH service is funded almost exclusively through student fees. As enrollment declined over the last few years, we've maintained our service levels. Our budget now requires us to cut some services. This year, to make the best use of our limited resources, we decided to eliminate Gold Line service Monday through Wednesday. We're also changing the downtown routing to help ensure Gold Line runs on-time. The new Gold Line route should be more reliable and will serve new desitnations including new student housing in the downtown area.
Minor Evening Schedule Change: The Green Line will run every 15 minutes from 7:23 am until 6:08 pm. The last pickup at Missoula College is at 5:59 pm. Students needing transportation to and from Missoula College in the evening are encouraged to contact the Office of Transportation for more information about vouchers for Uber and Lyft or free rides on the University of Montana Police Department’s Griz Walk service.
Why the Changes? This change allows us to serve Missoula College with one bus, which greatly simplifies our operations. New partnerships allow us to serve students traveling to or from Missoula College in the evening.
Temporary Stop Closures and Detours: Due to the Russell Street construction, there will be temporary closures and detours throughout the 2018-19 academic year. Passengers are encouraged to consult the UDASH detour webpage or sign up for infrequent but useful email alerts. As of August 27, the Purple Line is operating on its normal route, but the Russell and Dakota stop has been moved.
Why the Change? Construction on Russell Street requires us to make periodic adjustments to our routing. These changes are made in consultation with the Montana Department of Transportation to limit the impacts on our riders.
