Learning strategies for Higher Education

Study Skills Course

Professors Janet Zupan and Tammy Freimund teach numerous sections of this valuable, two-credit course each fall and spring semester.
This class is designed to guide a student toward a successful, manageable college experience. As a member of the class, you'll have the chance to explore your academic and learning strengths while gaining knowledge and practice with effective strategies that will lessen stress, increase comprehension and memory, and help you gain a better sense of control over your academic progress.Janet Zupan

Major topics covered include:

  • Stress Management
  • Time Management
  • Note taking
  • Reading
  • Learning Styles
  • Test Taking

You will earn a traditional, letter grade in this class, with semester credits that count toward your graduation.
Evaluation is based on this criteria:

  • Attendance and participation
  • Class activities and related assignments
  • Focus Projects (in writing, career development, or workshop attendance)
  • Exams

Through C&I 160, you will develop a repertoire of useful study skills that you can use throughout your college career.
