Learning strategies for Higher Education
Study Skills Course
Instructors Janet Zupan and Heather Hibbard teach this valuable, two-credit course each fall and spring semester, which is tuition-free for TRiO SSS students.
This class is designed to guide a student toward a successful, manageable college experience. As a member of the class, you'll have the chance to explore your academic and learning strengths while gaining knowledge and practice with effective strategies that will lessen stress, increase comprehension and memory, and help you gain a better sense of control over your academic progress.
Major topics covered include:
- Stress Management
- Time Management
- Note taking
- Learning Styles
- Test Taking
You will earn a traditional letter grade in this class, with semester credits that count toward your graduation.
Evaluation is based on this criteria:
- Attendance and participation
- Class activities and related assignments
- Focus Projects (in writing, career development, or workshop attendance)
Through C&I 160, you will develop a repertoire of useful study skills that you can use throughout your college career.
