If I am a Four Bear student and want to change

Students need to pick up a "Change of Major form at
Griz Central and secure the following signatures: the new major department
signing the student into the new major, the formerr major department
signing the student out of the old major, and, finally, the Four Bear
Cordinator. The Four Bear Cordinator needs to sign the Change of Major
form regardless of Four Bear status: whether a student rermains eligible
for continued program participation or withdraws from the program
due to various reasons. The Registrar's Office will not process the
Change of Major form without the Four Bear Coordinator's signature.
How do departments receive information regarding
their Four Bear students?
After a student signs a Four Bear contract, a copy of the contract
is forwarded to the student's major department. The department chair
is responsible for assigning an advisor to each Four Bear student
and alerting the Four Bear Coordinator of this advising assignment.
Are Four Bear students encouraged to utilize
the Walk-In Advising service in the Undergraduate Advsing Center?
All UM students are encouraged to use the Walk-In Advising Program
to supplement other academic advising resources. It is important for
Four Bear students to inform any advisor consulted that they are Four
Bear students.
How many credits per semester should Four
Bear students enroll in each term?
To graduate within four academic years, Four Bear students should
enroll in 15 credits per academic term. Four Bear students are allowed
to enroll in the three intervening summer sessions, which would allow
for some credit adjustment.
What type of classes should Four Bear students
enroll in during their first semester?
Four Bear freshmen should focus upon general education and introductory
courses required with their academic department.
What process has UM instituted to ensure that
Four Bear students receive a requested course?
Students who have signed up for the Four Bear four-year graduation
plan are given a registration priority under UM's on-line "Cyberbear"
registration system beginning with their first priority registration.
Students are responsible for following Cyberbear registration guidelines
and timetable to ensure that they receive priority.
What if a Four Bear student takes MAT 002
or MAT 005?
MAT 002 and MAT 005 are developmental courses. These 4-credit courses
do not count towards graduation credit. Therefore, the 4 credits of
MAT 002 and MAT 005 do not count towards the credit requirements for
the Four Bear Program.
What happens if a Four Bear student elects
to take a foreign exchange?
Foreign exchange credits approved by UM count toward academic progress
under the four-year graduation plan. Students need to contact the
Four Bear Coordinator.
What if a Four Bear student takes summer courses
at another institution?
Summer transfer credits may count toward academic progress as long
as the student takes courses which UM accepts toward general education,
elective credit requirements, or the student's major. It is the student's
responsibility to have transfer coursework reported to UM in a timely
fashion.
When do I need to submit an advisor's
approved four-year plan of study to the Four Bear Office?
Four Bear students need to be following an
advisor-approved four-year plan of study. Four Bear students will
need to submit an advisor approved plan by the endo of their sophomore
year (the end of year two).
What happens if a student decides to
make an addition to their primary major i.e. add a second option, a
minor, a second major etc.?
Since the Four Bear contract stipulates that the Four Bear Program
only guarantees one major, students will be eligible for Four Bear
registration only, as long as the remaining contractual agreements
are followed. The program will not, however, be able to guarantee
the completion of the programs within a four-year time frame. Once
again, the Four Bear Program guarantees one major only.
What is the procedure if a Four Bear student
requests to have the clock stopped due to a serious health or family
emergency?
The Four Bear four-year graduation clock will be stopped once during
a student's enrollment at UM in the event of a medical withdrawal.
Other certified emergencies must be documented and approved by the
coordinator in order to stop the four-year clock.
What happens if a student does not fulfill
his/her commitment to the Four Bear contract?
A student who does not fulfill the requirements of the Four Bear
contract ceases to be eligible for participation in the four-year
graduation plan. The student will lose Four Bear registration priority
and will be responsible for any fees associated with enrollment at
UM.
Can a student voluntarily withdraw from the
Four Bear Program?

Center 269 to withdraw from the program. There are no penalties associated
with withdrawing.
