Graduation Requirements

 

  • Completion of at least 120 semester credits to graduate. (Some degrees require more credits. Consult the UM Catalog.)
  • Completion of major requirements.
  • Completion of at least 39 upper-division credits (300 or 400 level courses).
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (some majors require a higher GPA).

Steps to Graduation Planning

1. Gather the resources that are needed to develop your graduation plan. (Note: Your Acedemic Advisor can help you here.)

a. UM Course Catalog
b. Class Schedule
c. Access to UM website/Cyberbear/Four-Year Prototypes
d. Major checklists or list of major requirements
e. Four Bear graduation planning sheet
f. General Education Requiements (GER) form
g. Current transcript

2. Know the UM Graduation Requirements. (See above.)

3. Determine when you want to graduate by.

Fill out the semesters you have left on the Four Bear Graduation Planning sheet including current semester coursework.

4. Lay out the coursework required for your major of interest and account for other graduation requirements (GERs, 39 UD credits, etc.).

a. Check courses off as you put them on your plan.
b. Consider the timing of courses (offered spring, autumn, summer?).
c. Consider pre-requisites to courses.
d. Keep it general (major UD course, GER "N" with lab).

5. Now that you have a sketch of a plan, it is time to consider:

a. Is it realistic?
b. Is it cost effective?
c. Can I achieve the required GPA?
d. Do I have time for opportunities I am interested in (minor, elective coursework, intership, study abroad, work, voluteering, etc.
