Jon Stannard, Director

I am a native Montanan who was raised in a family that promoted education as a way to open windows of opportunity. After graduating from Billings West High School, I moved to Missoula and began my studies at the University of Montana. While at the UM, I earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration-Finance and a Masters Degree in Business Administration.

I joined the Upward Bound Family my junior year of college (1978) and have never left the nest. I was first hired as a summer residential counselor and academic year math tutor to both high school and college students. Who would have known that 30 years later I would still be working with Upward Bound?

The years in UB have been good to me. Though my hair is turning gray and my step has slowed, Upward Bound has been my “Fountain of Youth.” The program has provided me the chance to work with talented students from many cultural backgrounds and wonderful educators who genuinely care about creating opportunity for kids.

When not working, I can be found in the kitchen, in the woods, on a river, or on a golf course. Though I am not an expert at any of my passions, they create outlets for creativity, solace, and fun.
